INTERACTIVE PHONETICS
WELCOME TO
BACK TO BASICS READING
Back to Basics Reading™ (BBR) teaches individuals of every age and ethnicity to read and spell English using a phonetics-based curriculum. Our online video course was developed by a certified teacher with almost three decades of experience working with children.
“I have never had a child I could not teach to read and spell using the original method of a proven phonics-based program.” –Babette Levy.
BBR has created an online reading and spelling video curriculum using original phonetic lessons that build sequentially as opposed to the random introduction of phonetic sounds currently found in modern textbooks.
It’s estimated that 1 out of 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read. Students who don’t read proficiently by the third grade are four times likelier to drop out of school ending up in poverty. *reference
Children are not the only ones struggling with literacy.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, 54% of U.S. adults 16-74 years old—about 130 million people–-lack proficiency in literacy reading below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level. *reference
The good news is that the Back to Basics Reading program serves to improve literacy for students of all ages through learning the fundamentals of letter sounds and spelling rules.
Individuals can begin at any age with Lesson 1 and will progress as they master each lesson. Letter sounds will become words, words will become sentences, and sentences become gateways to growth and adventure.
Learning to read provides students with the gained confidence and skills they need to be successful in life.
BBR phonetics-based curriculum is the answer to overcoming reading and spelling challenges for individuals of all ages, children or adults.

READING WITH PHONICS
MEET YOUR TEACHER
BABETTE LEVY
Babette has over 25 years’ experience teaching grades 1 through 12 as a certified teacher.
Disturbed by the increasing number of students unable to adequately read, spell, or use grammar mechanics, she left the traditional classroom to open Two Ladies Tutoring in a two-room schoolhouse. There she helps struggling students attain the critical reading, comprehension, and writing skills needed to reach and exceed grade level. However, she was soon faced with an overwhelming demand for these services. To meet their needs, Babette constructed an online method to teach these same phonics skills, thus birthing Back to Basics Reading.
Babette has taught in both private and public schools in various states across the US. Her hands-on style of teaching includes a variety of techniques addressing diverse learning styles. Students enjoy learning the rules of reading and spelling through song, dance, games, and physical movement which is encouraged in BBR online learning.
PASSION
“My passion is to develop confident readers who will be successful in whatever they set their hand to do. I want children to have a great future, and it begins with reading. There are many limitations in life and in business when a child or adult is hindered in their ability to read and comprehend. This curriculum will remove those limitations and open up an abundance of possibilities.”—Babette Levy
EXPECTATIONS
BBR is an original, foundational, phonetic curriculum that teaches all students how to read and spell if they complete the assignments and follow the rules taught. “It always works unless the student refuses to do the work.” –Babette Levy. Once hired by a Tulsa Public Middle School to teach reading, she implemented this basic phonics-based curriculum for struggling 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. By the end of the year, the school’s reading scores showed the highest increase in the district which afforded everyone on staff a monetary bonus. One student in particular, a 14-year-old boy who had determined he was going to be a basketball star and didn’t need to know how to read, quietly whispered “Thank you for teaching me how to read” before racing out of her classroom on the last day of school.
Babette has been married to Michael Levy for 35 years and they have 2 children. Both have graduated with honors from Broken Arrow High School as well as their respective colleges, Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma State University.
With a passion and call to help children become equipped to succeed, she has never met a child she couldn’t teach to read.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

Rilei
Two Ladies Tutoring has been a Godsend for not only one, but two of our children. We started with Mrs. Levy several years ago with my oldest son, as he was struggling with reading and comprehension. He was even in a special reading class in school for extra help. Mrs. Levy is excellent at teaching on all grade levels, My son eventually became an honor roll student and no longer needed tutoring, and has excelled in school ever since. Mrs. Levy now tutors our daughter who has also struggled tremendously with reading. Her struggles were to the point of having to do summer school every year in order to not get held back, that was until she started tutoring with Two Ladies Tutoring. Since she started, her grades have not fallen, and she has been on track in class, her focus has also improved in school as well. No more summer school! Not only has she learned to read more fluently, but she has learned the importance of staying focused and working hard, and taking responsibility for doing any less than her best.We would recommend Two Ladies Tutoring to anyone many times over to anyone who could benefit from it!

Erringten
Our daughter started going to Mrs. Levy in 1st grade. She was struggling with even sounding words out to put them together. She would spend 5 minutes sounding out each letter of the word “well” only to holler out “seven!” It was frustrating for all of us and we knew she needed more than just us to help her. By the end of that year, she was doing better. From the beginning to the end of 2nd grade was a giant difference! Even though Covid Mrs. Levy helped her. Now she is going into 4th grade. Her reading is fluid, she makes very few mistakes (usually only words she hasn’t seen yet) and her comprehension is on track. She hated reading because it was a struggle. She isn’t hating it anymore. The homework from Mrs. Levy is not something we have to tell her to stay on top of. She usually does it without us. The grammar rules that she’s learned make all the difference. Our daughter loves Mrs. Levy and we are grateful for her and her heart for helping children learn to read. We could have stopped coming here, but we know each year brings bee challenges, and sometimes having someone else help makes it so much better than trying to struggle through it at home.

Sammie
We are so blessed to have found you. We found out our daughter has dyslexia just after 2nd grade. We started tutoring with Two Ladies Tutoring because in 3rd grade it was possible she was not going to pass to the 4th grade. When Mrs. Levy tested her there were things that she was on a kindergarten or 1st-grade level. She worked hard with Mrs. Levy and actually started to learn the things that she was missing and passed to the 4th grade. Now we have Mrs. Krystal that is helping my daughter with math and to she is gaining confidence in and excelling. I am so thankful for everything they have done for my baby.

Addison
We have been tremendously pleased with the results we saw after our daughter started working with Babette. Not only did we see growth academically but the growth in confidence in Addison has been a game changer. She has transformed from a student who would lack the confidence to even start assignments to an honor roll student who is successfully taking advanced classes that we never thought, prior to Babette, she would even want to try. We are grateful for finding such an amazing tutor who really cares about each student and their future success. The time she spent working with our daughter has shown to be invaluable.

Joey & Vinnie
Our son Joey had absolutely no interest in reading, and nothing I tried worked. We walked past two ladies tutoring and stopped to ask some questions. Mrs. Babette welcomed us and showed us the school house, and we signed up right away. After just a few weeks, Joey started reading books on his own. Ever since being enrolled in Two Ladies Tutoring, he’s been reading over his grade level and reads for fun. When my son Vinnie was having problems reading due to the pandemic, I had no question in my mind about where to turn. Vinnie is now able to read as well! In a few months, he’s gone from pre-k to almost second-grade level reading. I can’t even express how much we love Mrs. Babette and all she’s done for our boys!

Avery
Avery has flourished under Mrs. Levy’s guidance. Avery has intellectual disabilities
that make learning more challenging for her. Mrs. Levy has so many different ways of
teaching the same concept to help facilitate the most learning possible. She is
incredibly kind, patient, intuitive, and creative. Avery is now able to decode more words
and read books we didn’t think were possible.
